June 2024 Accolades

Ben Schafer (2015) was awarded a Prize Teaching Fellowship by Yale. The Prize Teaching Fellowship recognizes graduate students for their outstanding performance and promise as a teacher. It is considered among the most important honors that Yale bestows upon graduate students.
Thomas “Tekay” King (1989) got his MFA in Theatre last fall and won the Outstanding Faculty of the Year for Community Service for 2023-2024 at Southwest Tennessee Community College.
D’Schon Simmons (2023) was elected the 2027 Class President at Princeton Unversity.
Joe Nail (2014), an Infantry Officer in the U.S. Army National Guard, has BIG GOALS for the summer. He’s running 50 marathons across all 50 states and doing 50,000 pushups along the way this summer to raise money for U.S. Veterans through Project 1310 (named after the amount of miles he’ll be running over the 50 states).

In each state, Joe will be running a marathon and completing push-ups in an iconic location from Pearl Harbor in Hawaii to the steps of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC, and encouraging everyone to walk or run a mile with him in honor of a veteran or service member they know or admire.

Joe is the co-founder of Lead for America, a 501c3 nonprofit organization that helps veterans and the next generation of leaders return to their communities and become civic leaders.
Follow his journey and send encouragement on his Instagram or at joenail.run.
