May 2020 Accolades

Dr. **Jamie Lathan** (1996) received the 2020 UNC Board of Governors’ Award for Excellence in Teaching, one of 17 awarded by the Board of Governors this year and one of the highest teaching honors in North Carolina. Jamie is the Dean of the North Carolina School of Science and Math’s Distance Education and Extended Programs.

Jumoke Opeyemi (2014) was highlighted by the Let’s Get Ready organization in a short documentary on her life as a Nigerian American. She is the Chairwoman of the Health Committee in Nigerian Youth Development Engagement Forum and graduated from NYU in 2018.

Derronda Williams (2006) released a new song, “Alive in Me,” and music video on YouTube.

Philip Mathew (2020) released a new song, “Past Don’t Matter.” Philip is an independent recording artist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. He’s classically trained in piano and voice. Over the last couple of years, he’s been producing music and just released his debut single, “Past Don’t Matter”, with his brother James. Together they are known as JAM & Philly. Philip produced/wrote the track and sings on it. Miskreet and ANJALI are vocalists that are featured on their song.

Vivek Ramaswamy (2003), CEO of Roivant Sciences, was interviewed by Tucker Carlson on Fox News about reflections on the COVID-19 pandemic.
